Things To Consider When Making A Plan

This overview contains a list of considerations to make when you are preparing an emergency plan:

  • First of all you need to decide what you are going to do in the event of a disaster. The disasters could result from an earthquake, a volcanic eruption, a flood or storm, or a tsunami. An emergency could arise from a terrorist attack, economic collapse, civil unrest or war.
  • Where is your safe place?
  • Do you leave or do you stay?
  • Where do you live? Is it a city, small town, or in the country?
  • What do you need to do for members of your household in regard to special requirements (food or medicine)?
  • What do you need to do for your pets or animals?
  • What do you need to have in your emergency kits?
  • What and how much survival food and water do you need?
  • Where do you go if you have to leave?
  • What clothing do you need?
  • Where members of your family/household should meet up after a disaster.
  • How old are your children and are there elderly in your household?
  • Where can you find information? For example—what local radio station to tune in to.

All these things are important to consider when preparing your plan. Your answers will make the difference in what you plan and pack.

Once your plan is prepared. You need to make sure that each member of your household knows what to do and practices it. The more you practice it the easier it will be to make decisions in a stressful situation.
